Schiano out at OSU, Mattison and Hafley in

Ohio State announced the hiring of MI defensive line coach Greg Mattison as its new co-defensive coordinator. The 34-year-old coached the viper position and was apparently offered more responsibility and money at U-M, but opted to join his friend Ryan Day at Ohio State. He spent 13 total seasons, including a stint in the early 1990s, coaching the Buckeyes' chief rival.

Brian Flores is a hot head-coaching candidate, and the New England Patriots don't have an obvious internal replacement for their de facto defensive coordinator if he opts to leave town.

2nd U of M coach heads to Columbus. The two were on staff together at Notre Dame during the late 1990s, and Meyer brought Mattison to Florida to be his co-defensive coordinator and defensive line coach from 2005-07.

Ecumenical Patriarch signs decree granting Ukraine church independence
Ukraine has accused Kremlin-backed churches of spreading pro-Russia propaganda, which Russian religious leaders have denied. An independent Ukrainian Orthodox church was decreed at a ceremony at the Patriarchal Church of St George.

The university said Tuesday that Day hired MI linebackers coach Al Washington for the same position on the Ohio State staff.

The Buckeyes will be replacing Schiano with former MI defensive line coach Greg Mattison and former San Fransico 49ers assistant Jeff Hafley.

In another shake up on the defensive coaching staff, Day has promoted defensive line coach Larry Johnson to associate head coach. The search ended up costing Tennessee AD John Currie his job. Meyer will continue to coach until after the Ohio State Buckeyes play in the Rose Bowl. Greg (Mattison) is a terrific coach.

USA withdrawal in Syria 'dictated by conditions'
Israel has maintained control over the contested region for 51 years after taking control in 1967 during the Six Day War. A United States withdrawal could leave them exposed to an attack by neighbouring Turkey and its Syrian proxies.

The Buckeyes' linebackers were arguably the biggest weakness of Ohio State's 2018 team.

The 34-year-old Washington is a Columbus native whose father played linebacker for the Buckeyes.

Stay tuned for an official announcement from Ohio State.
