Industrial activity banned for 3 days — CAPITAL GASPS

The air quality in the national capital improved and settled at "very poor" category on Wednesday, even as Delhi continued its battle with pollution.

The overall PM2.5 level - fine particulate matter in the air with a diameter of less than 2.5 micrometre - was recorded at 407 and the PM10 level at 581 here, the CPCB said. The national capital recorded its second highest pollution level of the year on December 23 with an AQI of 450.

As per CPCB, AQI between 0-50 is considered "good", between 51-100 "satisfactory", between 101-200 "moderate", between 201-300 "poor", between 301-400 "very poor", and between 401-500 "severe" and beyond 500 is severe plus emergency.

The city's air quality remained in the "severe" category for the third consecutive day on Monday as the wind speed and other meteorological factors remained "highly unfavourable" for dispersion of pollutants.

Satellite images show collapse of Indonesian island volcano
Hundreds of people have been killed by a tsunami that struck Indonesia last weekend after the Anak Krakatau volcano erupted. Many congregation members had already left the area for the capital, Jakarta , or other locations away from the impact zone.

Experts have predicted that the air quality will continue to oscillate between the "very poor" and "hazardous" category till next week because of not so favourable weather conditions.

On Sunday, Delhiites breathed the cleanest air in three weeks, according to CPCB data.

CPCB chairman S P Singh Parihar said the deterioration of the air quality will continue till Tuesday morning. The ventilation index lower than 6000 sqm/second with average wind speed less than 10 kmph is unfavourable for dispersion of pollutants. "In October and November, there are around 20-25 days when pollution level increases in Delhi due to stubble burning (in neighbouring states)".

The unfavourable meteorological conditions are likely to keep the air quality in the "severe" category for the next couple of days, authorities said.

The club are in the market for a striker with both Álvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud struggling to score with any real consistency. The Frenchman had earlier came close to becoming a Premier League player with Merseyside giants Liverpool .

The Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology said biomass burning is also contributing to the spike in PM2.5 concentration. The Delhi government is taking several steps. The EPCA notification also asks the authorities concerned to ensure smooth traffic flow in the region and jams add to pollution.

"It is very unfortunate that Mr. Kejriwal convenes a session of the Delhi Assembly on every private issue but is mum on this.we have requested many times that he call an all-party meeting on this issue. In spite of this, for Mr. Kejriwal, politics is more interesting than the lives of the people of Delhi", he further said. He again warned that legal action was being initiated against people violating the regulations.

The pollution prompted chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday to announce that the Delhi government will, if needed, bring back the controversial odd-even rule that allows only half of Delhi's private cars to run on alternate days.
