Apple Warns of Serious Consequences if iPhones Get Banned

Apple, facing a court ban in China on some of its iPhone models over alleged infringement of Qualcomm patents, said on Friday (Dec 14) it will push software updates to users in a bid to resolve potential issues.

Apple will send software updates to several iPhone models in China to remove features disputed by Qualcomm as illegal. The iPhone models mentioned in the ban continue to be available for purchase in China.

Recently, a Chinese court ruled in favour of Qualcomm, which claimed Apple infringed on a couple of its patents.

Should the San Antonio Spurs trade for Kentavious Caldwell-Pope?
Ariza had been linked to the Los Angeles Lakers this week, but the sides had not come close to a trade as of Friday morning. The Suns are arguably the worst team in the National Basketball Association and have won just four games this season.

The two patents in question relate to software Qualcomm developed to assist in the resizing of photos and managing apps on a touchscreen, according to Reuters.

Qualcomm has countered that Apple is using its intellectual property without paying for it and that the legal cases are aimed at forcing it to lower licensing charges. Apple has argued that its former supplier unfairly leverages its position as the biggest supplier of chips for smartphones to force payment of the fees.

Apple warns that banning iPhones in China could have serious consequences for both the company and the local economy, with the Cupertino-based tech giant reminding that it created 5 million jobs locally.

Meadows Drops Out Of Chief Of Staff Consideration
Three sources told the Huffington Post that Kushner met with Trump about the soon-to-be-vacant power broker post on Wednesday. In one meeting Kelly allegedly called Trump "an idiot" and said it was "pointless to try to convince him of anything".

Apple's patent battle with Qualcomm in China has intensified this week, with Qualcomm seeking a broader ban and Apple claiming it has a workaround to avoid Qualcomm's patents. Apple is still selling these phones in China, even though the court's preliminary injunction orders an immediate block.

In addition to this, Apple has also filed a reconsideration request with the Chinese patent court in which it has asked the authority to reconsider the ban on import and sale of iPhones in the region.

However, it appears a software update won't appease Qualcomm.

Like Apple, Chinese smartphone makers had argued for years that Qualcomm - which owns a swathe of patents essential to modern wireless communications - is abusing its position and levying punitive fees.
