O2 network outage hits Herefordshire

O2's data network is down across the United Kingdom this morning, the mobile operator said.

The mobile company has confirmed engineers are working to fix the issue. Earlier media reports suggested that networks of O2 in Britain and SoftBank in Japan have suffered network outages due to the software error.

Calls are still working, O2 said.

They said in a statement: "The network issue we are now experiencing remains a top priority for us and we are working as quickly as possible to fix the issues".

China confident of clinching US trade pact
Adding to the confusion, Trump indicated on Tuesday that the trade talks could go beyond the March 1 deadline. It also would begin buying products from United States farmers "immediately".

The issue affected nodes in the core networks of customers using two software versions of the Serving GPRS Support Node - Mobility Management Entity (SGSN-MME), Ericsson said, adding that it had taken immediate action to enable service restoration.

Aside from being a huge inconvenience for data-hungry consumers, the O2 network outage is also causing issues for things such as public transportation and daily operations of local businesses.

Mark Evans, CEO of Telefonica UK also addressed users via Twitter.

'We fully appreciate it's been a poor experience and we are really sorry'.

Canada arrests Huawei CFO, to extradite her to US
David Mulroney, a former Canadian ambassador to China, said USA and Canadian business executives could face reprisals in China. Canada's cyber security chief, however, said Ottawa was prepared for any possible retaliatory cyber attacks over the arrest.

United Kingdom mobile phone operator O2 and Japan's SoftBank said on Thursday (Dec 6) that tens of millions of their customers were unable to use data due to a glitch with sofware made by Sweden's Ericsson. It is still investigating how many customers were impacted.

"The faulty software that has caused these issues is being decommissioned".

It said it had been told by Ericsson that operators in 11 countries were affected by the glitch.

Among them are busses, which uses mobile data to transmit timetable information to smart screens on London's network of bus stops, and taxis companies which use mobile apps to get custom and dispatch cars.
