Fortnite creator challenges Google Play and Steam with Epic Games Store

Epic Games, the video game developer behind Gears of War, the Unreal Engine, and the Fortnite franchise, announced on Tuesday morning with a post on its website that it will debut its own eponymous digital storefront in the near future.

Developers will also be afforded an easy way to connect with customers through a direct newsfeed displayed prominently on the store, which should make it very convenient for interested customers to follow any news to do with their favorite developers and games.

In comparison, Steam has Valve take around 20 to 30 percent of revenue from developers.

Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea has turned down a deal worth £275,000 a week to stay at the club. They keep and keep and keep going to complicated football and it is hard to have that continuity.

Epic hasn't confirmed many details about Season 7 beyond its start date, but we've gotten a good idea of what to expect from the three teaser images it has shared so far.

The hub itself will be linked to different creations from Epic Games and the community.

YouTube content creators, Twitch streamers, bloggers, and others are at the leading edge of game discovery. To jumpstart the economy, Epic Games will cover the first 5% of creator revenue-sharing for the first 24 months of the service. Developers using the Unreal Engine will save another 5% as the 12% include the engine royalty already.

Speaking to, Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney spoke of a larger 88% revenue share for developers, compared to the recently revised 70/30 split that's offered by Valve's Steam platform. The difference here is the cut that Epic takes. Obviously, this will benefit all the developers that are now using Unreal Engine 4 in order to create their games and Epic shared the following image in order to give us an idea of what it will be charging. It is similar to the creative mode in the block-building game Minecraft, in which players can similarly create their own buildings and landscapes without worrying about being attacked. The company notes that it won't allow paid ads in search results, either. From Epic's 12% store fee, we'll have a profitable business we'll grow and reinvest in for years to come!

You may have noticed from all this past-tense talk that it's just not happening anymore.

The Epic Games Store will open its virtual doors in 2019.
