3 states pass marijuana legislation in midterm elections

Matthew Abel, an attorney with the Cannabis Counsel in Detroit, says there is still work to be done on marijuana laws in the state. In the 2018 midterm elections, four states voted on various stages of legalization, whether medical or recreational.

On a night where the house and senate were being decided across bipartisan lines, voters in 4 states were decided on the legalization of marijuana for recreational and medical purposes.

"Even with Proposal 1 passing, it's important for MI residents to keep in mind that public consumption and driving under the influence remains strictly illegal".

Missouri had three marijuana measures on the ballot.

'Severe' air quality in Delhi-NCR

Cannabis stocks had already risen Wednesday after MI voted to legalize recreational marijuana and Missouri approved medical pot. Its proposal also levies a 10 percent sales tax on pot sales. Two of the states were voting on the recreational ledgers: North Dakota and the state of MI to varying results, the Midwestern State proving more conducive to progressive change.

Recreational marijuana becomes legal ten days after state election results are certified, which should happen early next month.

"I started to see that this was a lifetime chance because this is a massive shift where you know there are consumers who use this product and now that it was legal the market could be even larger", he said, adding that he expects that Canadian cannabis companies such as his own will eventually expand into the US once marijuana becomes legal.

Allow individuals 21 and older to; purchase, possess and use marijuana and marijuana-infused edibles, and grow up to 12 marijuana plants for personal consumption. So far Vermont is the only state that has legalized recreational use (but not commercial production and distribution) by that route.
