Animal populations have dropped by 60% according to Wildlife report

In Canada, mammal populations dropped by 43 per cent, amphibian and reptile populations dropped by 34 per cent, fish populations dropped by 20 per cent, and some types of birds have lost between 43 and 69 per cent of their populations. The demand we place on the planet's natural resources to fuel our lifestyles continues to take a huge toll on biodiversity around the world.

For the new assessment, the WWF used the Global Living Planet Index that tracks the population abundance of thousands of vertebrates from around the world to measure changes in biodiversity. The researchers looked at more than 4,000 vertebrate species worldwide.

From hedgehogs and puffins to elephants, rhinos, polar bears and orangutans, wildlife is declining - driven by habitat loss, poaching, pollution and higher temperatures, according to the report by the Zoological Society of London and the WWF.

"Nature systems essential to our survival-forests, oceans and rivers-remain in decline", said Carter Roberts, the president and CEO of the WWF in the US.

Before Patricia answered, he asked a reporter to "sit up" and "have a little respect for the process". Some great unintentional comedy right there. "I don't know how I'll fit in, but I'm open-minded".

"With the upcoming European Union elections and the resulting renewal of key decision-making bodies, Europe has the opportunity to revive its global leadership on climate change and nature conservation", Asin said.

"Decision makers at every level need to make the right political, financial and consumer choices to achieve the vision that humanity and nature thrive in harmony on our only planet".

Despite the disheartening statistics, the WWF points out that it's not too late to turn things around, and that protecting nature helps protect people.

The declines are especially pronounced in the tropics, with South and Central America suffering an 89 percent loss compared with 1970, said the "Living Planet Report".

A Madea Family Funeral trailer lays Tyler Perry character to rest
In addition, Tyler has plans to give her a proper send-off with a farewell stage play tour across the country. According to reports, Madea has appeared in dozens of films grossing more than $500 million internationally.

"We can no longer ignore the impact of current unsustainable production models and wasteful lifestyles." said Marco Lambertini, director general of WWF International.

WWF is calling for a new global deal for nature - a set of collective actions together with a roadmap for targets, indicators and metrics for reversing nature loss including scenarios for land-use change, dietary shifts, sustainable harvesting as well as traditional conservation approaches such as protected areas.

"The nature conservation agenda is not only about securing the future of tigers, pandas, whales, and all the wonderful diversity of life we love and cherish on Earth", according to WWF International's Lambertini.

While climate change plays a role in the loss of biodiversity, the report says the bigger culprit is runaway human consumption. But an upcoming meeting of the 195-nation body could be the beginning of a "revolution" that will see the Convention re-engineered in 2020 into "a new deal for Nature". "Pakistan is experiencing a steady rise in carbon emissions, which contributes to global issues such as climate change and global warming", he said.
