National Basketball Association G League contracts could impact NBL

National Basketball Association G League contracts could impact NBL

During the year leading up to the 2019-20 season, the National Basketball Association G League will hire a dedicated program manager and establish a working group that will be tasked with identifying eligible elite players who may be offered Select Contracts. For the 2018-19 season, NBA G League rosters are made up of players signed to NBA two-way contracts, players signed to NBA G League contracts and NBA players on assignment in the NBA G League.

The organization announced Thursday it will offer "Select Contracts" worth up to $125,000 to top high school prospects who don't want to go down the NCAA's one-and-done route.

The NBA has unveiled a new career path for elite, young basketball stars that could persuade them not to play in Australia's NBL, Europe or with a U.S. college team.

Players will be eligible to sign a Select Contract if they turn 18 by September 15 prior to the season in which they would play.

. It will be interesting to see how this impacts everyone, from the NCAA to the National Basketball Association to the G League, involved.

Players will be eligible to sign the select deal if they turn 18 by September 15 prior to the season that they would spend in the G League. Article X of the National Basketball Association collective bargaining agreement already covers this for all draft-eligible American prospects: If a player renders services under contract for any non-NBA professional team prior to January 1, he is automatically placed in the next draft. Players will be eligible to sign a "select contract" if they turn 18 by September 15 prior to the season that they would spend in the G League.

G League officials are still considering how to address these concerns, with room for flexibility both before the program officially launches and once it is running. Heck, just this year, Darius Bazley, a five-star recruit ranked No. 18 in the 2018 class by Rivals.com, opted out of his commitment to Syracuse to jump straight to the G League.

In April, the Commission on College Basketball recommended that the NCAA and NBA embrace alternative options for one-and-done caliber prospects.

Sweet Christmas, Netflix And Marvel Just Cancelled Luke Cage, Too
The more likely scenario is what Deadline is reporting when it says that the show's creators are facing creative difficulties . "Unfortunately, " Marvel's Luke Cage " will not return for a third season", Netflix and Marvel said in a joint statement .

Still yet, the NCAA may provide a route the G League simply can not: An opportunity to get an education.

The G League's working group is expected to be formed and functioning within the next couple of weeks, but it's unclear when the process of players contacting the league and vice versa will begin. Turner did tell the network that the G-League won't pursue players who have already committed to play in college, but if players decommit on their own, it would be an option.

"It will affect college basketball for sure, because the one-and-dones that don't go to the NBA will go there for the $125,000", Hardaway said. Of the 35, only five scored more than 10 points in their first game.
