Taylor Swift's endorsement of Democrats causes spike in voter registrations

Kamari Guthrie, director of communications for vote.org shared, "We are up to 65,000 registrations in a single 24-hour period since T. Swift's post".

Guthrie told BuzzFeed that Swift's post led to Vote.org having 155,940 unique visitors, which is the second-highest total behind National Voter Registration Day on September 25, where the organization saw 304,942 unique visitors.

"I'm sure Taylor Swift has nothing or doesn't know anything about her", Trump said of Swift.

Vote.org said 56,669 people registered nationwide in August, and 190,178 registered in September.

In her post on Sunday, which garnered 1.5 million likes, Swift said she was a supporter of gay rights and women's rights and would vote for two Democrats: Phil Bredesen for the Senate and Jim Cooper for the House of Representatives.

Bellingcat said it gathered its information from open sources and " testimony from people familiar with the person ". Bellingcat last month identified Boshirov as a colonel in the GRU whose real name was Anatoliy Chepiga.

Blackburn's campaign didn't comment on Swift's post, but President Trump did. It seems that fans and followers from the musician's home state of Tennesse were among the most impacted by Taylor's words. "I believe in the fight for LGBTQ rights, and that any form of discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender is WRONG". Swift already stands out from her peers as having the most politically diverse fan base among young Americans, and I would not bet against her helping register, empower and activate just enough of them to make a difference in November, for them and the country. She represented Tennessee's 7th congressional district.

"Taylor has never to my knowledge come out and said anything about her being pro-Trump", he said.

She also acknowledged her past reluctance to address political issues but said that had changed in the past two years.

"She voted against the reauthorisation of the Violence Against Women Act, which attempts to protect women from domestic violence, stalking, and date rape".

Nadine Hubbs, professor of women's studies and music at the University of MI, and author of "Rednecks, Queers and Country Music, " notes that Swift's statement doesn't ever mention political parties, but instead focuses on issues like human rights, LGBTQ rights, equal pay and racial discrimination.

Although Swift has been reluctant to speak about her political views in the past, there is a clear disagreement between the pop star and president. For context, the site typically sees an average of 14,078 visitors this year.

"It's a time when human beings, if they believe something, they should talk about it, especially as I think a lot of white people are waking up, " Cam said during an event at the Grand Ole Opry celebrating Ray Charles.

Swift's Instagram post had recommended people visit the website Vote.org. "Last day to register to vote is October 9".

Mr Trump dismissed Swift as an uninformed voter.
