Irish data regulator seeks information from Google on security bug

The Wall Street Journal reported that the company kept quiet about the leak which occurred between 2015 and March 2018 when it was found and fixed. A bug in the API could have allowed outside developers to access the data of 496,951 users who had only opted to share their private profile data with friends. That said, Google had confirmed that the data hasn't been misused.

We made Google+ with privacy in mind and therefore keep this API's log data for only two weeks.

Boston Red Sox ALDS: David Price devalued once again vs Yankees
NY and Boston split at Fenway Park and are tied 1-1 in the best-of-five AL Division Series going into Game 3 on Monday night. Gary Sanchez homered twice, a solo shot off Price and a three-run homer off Eduardo Rodriguez in the seventh inning.

Google found and patched the hole this March and an engineering team had briefed CEO Sundar Pichai on the issue along with its prposed intention to not disclose the vulnerability for fear of government investigation and loss of public trust. "None of these thresholds were met here", the spokesperson said. Google plans to change the way apps ask for permissions, giving Android users more control over which permissions they want to give.

In the wake of the report, Google has seemingly decided that the platform's time is up and will be shutting down consumer access to the social network.

Doctor Who: Jodie Whittaker's debut is most watched launch for 10 years
No TARDIS, no sonic screwdriver, just her trying to figure out how to stop an alien race from "hunting" a human being as a target. In its new Sunday evening slot on BBC One , " Doctor Who " generated an average of 8.2 million viewers, and a peak of 9 million.

Google deliberately avoided disclosing the problem at the time, in part to avoid drawing regulatory scrutiny and damaging its reputation, according to a Wall Street Journal story that cited anonymous individuals and documents. "The consumer version of Google+ now has low usage and engagement: 90 percent of Google+ user sessions are less than five seconds". They were not able to confirm which users were impacted by this but from detailed analysis, they found out that upto 500,000 Google+ accounts were potentially affected. However, Google said no other data, including private messages or phone numbers, could have been accessed, and that there's no evidence that developers were actually aware of this bug or that data was misused.

Allegations of the improper use of data for 87 million Facebook users by Cambridge Analytica, which was hired by President Trump's 2016 USA election campaign, has hurt the shares of the world's biggest social network and prompted multiple investigations in the United States and Europe.

While SpaceX has launched a rocket from Vandenberg AFB in July , its landing took place on a drone ship in the Pacific Ocean. Minutes after launch, the rocket's second stage separated from the first-stage booster and continued rising spaceward.

Apps will be required to inform users what data they will have access to. Contact interaction data will no longer be available via the Android Contacts API either. Google further said that the enterprise version of Google+ will continue.
