China tells Pompeo US must stop 'misguided actions'

Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Monday met with visiting U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, saying that China and the United States should "follow the right path of win-win cooperation, rather than go astray toward conflict and confrontation".

Unlike a similar trip in June, Chinese President Xi Jinping granted no audience to the USA secretary of state.

Pompeo arrived in China from North Korea and said he wanted to inform Yi about his meeting with the North Korean leader.

Kim Jong-un and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had lunch and discussed future relations between the two countries.

"I regret that the strategic dialogue between our two countries is something you all chose not to undertake", he said.

Pompeo tweeted after the meeting, "Had a good trip to #Pyongyang to meet with Chairman Kim. We demand that the USA side stop these kinds of mistaken actions".

While SpaceX has launched a rocket from Vandenberg AFB in July , its landing took place on a drone ship in the Pacific Ocean. Minutes after launch, the rocket's second stage separated from the first-stage booster and continued rising spaceward.

Pompeo replied that it was "important that we listen to each other, work through and find constructive solutions so we can find a good outcome for both our countries".

"There's a lot of logistics that will be required to execute that", Pompeo told a news briefing in Seoul before leaving for Beijing.

The two diplomats had warmer words regarding efforts to curb North Korea's nuclear ambitions.

Pompeo even invoked the cancellation of a meeting between US Defense Secretary Jim Mattis and his Chinese counterpart, which was supposed to take place in Beijing this month.

During the historic Singapore summit with United States president Donald Trump, it was hard to spot Kim behind the wall of the men in black.

That stood in stark contrast to the North's reaction to Pompeo's previous visit to Pyongyang in July, after which the North said Pompeo had made "gangster-like demands", Reuters points out.

South Korean President Moon Jae-In thanked Pompeo for his visit and expressed his well-wishes for the potential upcoming summit.

Sweden and Switzerland are once again being mentioned as possible locations, as was the case ahead of the June 12 US-North Korea summit in Singapore.

After meeting with Kim in Pyongyang on Sunday, Pompeo told journalists in Seoul that the leader had agreed to open up the Punggye-ri nuclear testing site to inspectors, according to a pool report.

Pompeo shot back that the U.S.is very concerned with China's unsafe actions and rhetoric, which destabilizing for cross-strait relations and the entire region.

On Monday, Pompeo wrapped up his three-day East Asia tour aimed at pressing North Korean leader Kim Jong Un to give up his country's nuclear weapons and long-range missile programmes.

Washington and Pyongyang have sparred over the exact terms of the vaguely-worded agreement in Singapore, with the United States pushing to maintain sanctions and pressure against the North until its "final, fully verified denuclearisation".

NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine plans to meet Rogozin - their first in-person encounter - when he attends the launch. An air leak occurred due to a small hole in the spacecraft at the International Space Station at the end of August.

"I would assume there are negotiations going on over specifics - somewhere there are people meeting, " said Dean Cheng, a senior research fellow at the Heritage Foundation in Washington.
