Haiti rattled by aftershock day after quake kills at least 12

The tremors caused panic on streets where emergency teams were providing relief to victims of Saturday's quake, which toppled cinderblock homes and rickety buildings in several cities.

The agency confirmed that some homes were destroyed or damaged, without offering specific figures.

Government spokesman Eddy Jackson Alexis said that 11 people have been reported dead so far, the AFP news agency reported on October 7.

The quake was felt in the Haitian capital as well as in neighbouring Dominican Republic.

The police chief for the north-west region, Jackson Hilaire, said seven people died in Port-de-Paix, while the interior minister, Reynaldo Brunet, said three people had died further south in the town of Gros-Morne.

Senate barely advances to final Kavanaugh vote
The US Senate has narrowly advanced President Donald Trump's Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh's nomination to a final vote. In a twist, Murkowski said she would state her opposition but vote "present" as a courtesy to Kavanaugh supporter Sen.

Haitian Prime Minister Jean Henry Ceant took to Twitter to urge people to remain calm following the quake and provide details on the emergency response.

The Nord-Ouest department is the poorest part of impoverished Haiti, with many areas isolated due to the dire state of the roads.

Rescue workers in Haiti said they were not looking for any more victims, although residents appeared to be jolted by the shake.

Poverty and political instability have prevented Haiti from shoring up weaker buildings despite the two major fault lines along the island of Hispaniola, which it shares with the Dominican Republic.

Four other people were killed in the town of Gros-Morne, 50 kilometers southeast of Port-de-Paix.

NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine plans to meet Rogozin - their first in-person encounter - when he attends the launch. An air leak occurred due to a small hole in the spacecraft at the International Space Station at the end of August.

No immediate damage or injuries had been reported, according to the Associated Press.

"The house can fall at any time", he said.

Haitian officials said a convoy bringing food and drinking water was headed to the afflicted zone.

A 7.0 natural disaster in January 2010, with an epicenter just west of Port-au-Prince, killed over 220,000 people and left some 300,000 injured.

Haiti President Jovenel Moise said on his Twitter account Sunday that civil protection brigades were working to clear debris.
