Tropical Storm Kirk is continuing to move west across the Tropical Atlantic, but does not now pose any threat to land, the National Hurricane Center said Sunday.

No coastal watches or warnings were in effect for either storm.

It said that the system, which is 1, 615 miles east of the Windward Islands - Dominica, Grenada, St Lucia and St Vincent and the Grenadines - has sustained maximum winds of 35 miles per hour (mph).

The National Hurricane Center or NHC said the storm is moving toward the east near 5 miles per hour (7 kph), and this general motion is expected to continue through Tuesday night.

Tropical Storm Kirk will continue to move westward across the Atlantic through mid-week.

The only active storm in the Atlantic is Subtropical Storm Leslie.

The scientists also cite changing housing development patterns for increasing the number of homes affected by storm surge, with more properties being developed on wetlands, farms and conserved areas.
