Cavill first played Superman in 2013 in Zack Snyder's Man of Steel, where the hero committed a taboo by breaking character and killing General Zod.

Henry Cavill is parting ways with Warner Bros. after negotiations for him to make a cameo appearance in Shazam! fell through, according to The Hollywood Reporter. THR has word that Henry Cavill is done with the Superman role, after playing the character in three films.

As its superhero franchise continues to struggle, the studio is restructuring yet again, with plans to instead focus on a recently announced Supergirl origin movie, for which Cavill would be too old to star in.
