US to close Palestine mission in Washington

US to close Palestine mission in Washington

The United States will threaten to impose sanctions on International Criminal Court (ICC) judges if they go ahead with an investigation into alleged war crimes committed by usa personnel in Afghanistan, Reuters reports.

USA national security adviser John Bolton blasted the International Criminal Court Monday, calling it "contrary to American principles", "outright dangerous" and "ineffective".

Bolton's speech comes after the ICC in November 2017 the ICC prosecutor asked to investigate crimes allegedly committed by members of the US military who served in Afghanistan.

That's not all: "We will sanction their funds in the USA financial system, and we will prosecute them in the USA criminal system", Bolton will say, according to The Wall Street Journal.

France, a major advocate of the ICC, said the institution should be left to do its work without hindrance. "We will provide no assistance to the ICC". He was previously the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations during the George W Bush government and fought against the ICC in the 2000s.

John Bolton is expected to outline the new policy in a speech that will also threaten ICC judges with sanction if they target Israel or the United States for its policies toward the Palestinians.

The United States will negotiate agreements with countries to prohibit them from surrendering a USA citizen to the ICC, Bolton said. The State Department said in a statement this is because the PLO has not taken steps to advance the start of direct and meaningful negotiations with Israel.

Hurricane Florence Projected Path: Maps to Track the Storm
The NHC issued a hurricane watch for the coastal area stretching from SC up through North Carolina and into southern Virginia . The entire southern East Coast of the United States is bracing for the arrival of Hurricane Florence as the storm approaches.

"We will not cooperate with the ICC", said Bolton, according to Al Jazeera.

Bolton said the court should not have jurisdiction over Americans or people from other nations that never ratified the treaty that created the court in 2002.

The court investigates and brings to justice people responsible for genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes, intervening when national authorities can not or will not prosecute.

Shortly after the State Department announcement, President Donald Trump's national security adviser, John Bolton, launched a broadside against The Hague-based International Criminal Court.

Team Trump's consistent disdain for the "soft power" of multilateral institutions and diplomacy, which has been a bulwark of USA foreign policy since World War II, is going to undermine this country for years after Trump and Bolton leave Washington.

In 2016, the The Hague-based court said members of the U.S. armed forces and the Central Intelligence Agency might have committed war crimes by torturing detainees in Afghanistan.

Bolton went on to proclaim that the US will not cooperate with the ICC, even financially.

Mr Trump has since pledged to withhold aid from the Palestinians until they return to the negotiating table as his White House seeks to craft a plan for Middle East peace - what he has called the "ultimate deal".

The Palestinians announced a fresh push against Israel at the International Criminal Court (ICC) on Tuesday, a day after the United States said it was closing their Washington mission partly over the campaign.

Bolton said the U.S. would "not sit quietly" if the ICC came after it, Israel, or other USA allies.

The Palestinian leadership cut off contact with the Trump administration after the U.S. president recognised the disputed city of Jerusalem as Israel's capital in December.

"This law, which enjoyed broad bipartisan support, authorizes the president to use all means necessary and appropriate, including force, to shield our service members and the armed forces of our allies from ICC prosecution".

Bolton said the announcement about ending all involvement with and support for the ICC put the USA stance in the "public record".

The Palestine Liberation Organization's office has served as a de facto embassy for the Palestinian people. Although the USA does not recognize Palestinian statehood, the PLO has maintained in Washington a general delegation office that facilitates Palestinian officials' interactions with the US government.
