Novak Djokovic: The great comeback continues - US Open

There was a time when Pete Sampras's tally of 14 Grand Slam singles titles - the last of which came at the U.S. Open in 2002 - seemed like the acme of sporting achievement in men's tennis. The only two players with more Grand Slam titles than him are Rafael Nadal (17) and Roger Federer (20).

Pete Sampras is one of the biggest legends ever to play the game. I'm really sad to lose the final in this tournament because I had too much passion playing the final, trying to win the title again.

The Argentine put his admiration aside Sunday and made it hard for Djokovic to gain an edge, despite the score of the first set.

The first violation given to Williams was for coaching, which isn't allowed during any men's matches but is permitted on the women's tour except in grand slam tournaments. Del Potro then held at love and had chances for another break on his next opportunity before Djokovic finally held to end a 22-point game that lasted more than 20 minutes.

Djokovic, playing in his eighth US Open final, delivered a businesslike 6-3, 7-6 (7/4), 6-3 victory over third-seeded Juan Martin del Potro of Argentina.

Novak Djokovic produced an impeccable performance to beat Juan Martin del Potro in the US Open final and win his 14th Grand Slam title.

She served as Pakistan's first lady for three non-consecutive terms from 1990-1993, 1997-1999 and 2013-2017, The Dawn reported. Nawaz Sharif was disqualified from holding public office by the Pakistan Supreme Court in the Panama Papers case.

6-3 victory under the roof at Arthur Ashe stadium - it was raining in NY - pulled him level with Pete Sampras for third on the all-time men's list.

Never was that more apparent than the game that stood out on this evening, with Djokovic serving while down 4-3 in the second set. The first actually thing I saw related to tennis on the TV was his first or second Wimbledon championship.

For quite some time after that Djokovic looked towards Del Potro's singing friend with utmost anger, unable to get them out of his head and that showed on the court.

That's 85 percent. Quite a contrast to the current state of the women's game, where eight players won the past eight majors.

"But, at the same time, there was always part of me that imagined and believed and hoped that I can get back to the desired level of tennis very soon".

Novak Djokovic's U.S. Open title moved him up three spots to No. 3 in the ATP rankings Monday, behind Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, making that trio the top three for the first time in 3½ years.

Former French Open and Australian Open champion Li Na has been credited with sparking a tennis revolution in China, and Wang said: "I watch some matches about Li Na".

Del Potro was right in the match but couldn't win the points that mattered.

The crowd was roaring for sentimental favourite Del Potro - shut out of Grand Slam finals since his 2009 US Open triumph.

He needed four sets to get past 41st-ranked Hungarian Marton Fucsovics in the first round and another to get past 61st-ranked American Tennys Sandgren in the second.

'I have utmost respect for what they have achieved on the court, but also the champions, role models they are off the court. "It will be in my heart for the rest of my life", Del Potro said.
