Federal Bureau of Investigation agent Peter Strzok, who sent out anti-Trump texts, fired: lawyer

Strzok's attorney, Aitan Goelman, said in a statement that FBI Deputy Director David Bowdich made the decision to terminate his client.

Strzok, a two decade veteran of the FBI, had overseen Hillary Clinton's email server investigation as well as the beginning of the investigation into Russian meddling in the election.

That lawyer, Lisa Page, also happened to be someone he was having an affair with.

Strzok became emblematic of Trump's unfounded assertions that a so-called deep state of bureaucrats opposed to him was undermining his presidency.

President Trump, a frequent critic of the Strzok, celebrated the agent's firing with a pair of tweets while vowing to "fight back" against the Mueller investigation. The former counter-intelligence agent had been reassigned to the FBI's human resources department after he was removed from Robert Mueller's special counsel investigation.

Security alert at Seattle's SeaTac airport after plane took off without permission
We are "stunned and heartbroken" by the incident, the family said. "We believe there are no passengers on board", the tweet said. Russell was a resident of Sumner, Washington. "I lift a lot of bags".

The letter specifically lambasted the decision of the deputy director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation to effectively overrule the FBI's internal disciplinary body, which had recommended Strzok be suspended and demoted instead of terminated.

Mr Trump's allies have seized on the texts, saying they show the investigation into possible coordination between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation is tainted by political bias.

"OPR reviewed the investigative materials, as well as the written and oral responses of Mr. Strzok and his counsel, and issued OPR's decision".

Page appeared before select House committee members for almost five hours last month and answered questions about her texts exchanged with Strzok.

Strzok's lawyer, Aitan Goelman, said in a statement that the bureau fired Strzok on August 10.

One early donor was Lawfare editor and fired FBI Director James Comey friend Benjamin Wittes.

The president tweeted that "the list of bad players in the FBI & DOJ gets longer & longer", adding that the investigation is a "total hoax".

Strzok was escorted from his office in June after the release of Department of Justice Inspector General Michael Horowitz's report that laid out his biased text messages. In describing his 21 years at the FBI, The New York Times said, "He rose quickly through its ranks, earning a reputation within the bureau as one of its most savvy and reliable counterintelligence agents". Attorney General Jeff Sessions fired McCabe in March.

McCabe - who, unlike Comey, could not be removed at the will of the president - has said his termination was a politically motivated attempt to undermine the Mueller probe. Each was referred to the FBI for possible violations of the bureau's code of conduct.
