Gates also said that when their political work in Ukraine dried up in 2015, Manafort had difficulty paying his bills and had no other clients at that time.

She identified Manafort as the person in control of the 31 foreign bank accounts. The crimes Manafort allegedly committed do not have bearing on that central question, but they were uncovered in the course of the special counsel investigation; this is the first trial resulting from Mueller's probe.

Trump was indirectly referenced in multiple ways throughout the testimony, highlighting the risks to the president of Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation. He testified that he and Manafort knew they were committing crimes for years, concealing money in foreign bank accounts and falsifying bank loan documents.

The vendors testified about how Manafort paid for his luxury goods, including cars and custom suits, by using direct wire transfers from accounts overseas.

The judge's comments on the eighth day of the trial were in response to a written filing by prosecutors arguing that Ellis should instruct the jury that he made an error in admonishing them during the Wednesday testimony of IRS agent Michael Welch.

Gates, who pleaded guilty in February to charges of conspiracy and lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, admitted to committing crimes with former business associate Manafort earlier this week.

Unveiling of provincial buck a beer scheme expected today
The program will see the government-set minimum price of beer drop from $1.25 to $1.00 before tax and deposit. While that sounds insanely cheap, note that for the last 10 years, the minimum price for beer was only $1.25.

Gates faced a thrashing to his reputation from lead defense attorney Kevin Downing on Tuesday and Wednesday as Downing sought to undermine Gates' credibility as a witness. When Downing resumed his questioning about what he called Gates' "secret life", Gates testified that he'd "made many mistakes over many years and I regret them".

U.S. District Judge T.S. Ellis III said that judges should be patient but "they made a mistake" when the Senate confirmed him to the bench.

During the testimony, Manafort did not stare Gates down as he did Monday.

Downing wondered aloud why Gates had shown "perfect recollection" during examination by the government but was now much less precise under cross-examination by Manafort's defence.

Downing spent several hours on Tuesday firing questions at Gates to impugn his credibility and paint him as a liar, asking about everything from his extramarital affair in London and funds he embezzled from Manafort, to questions on whether he may have crossed the line by submitting personal expenses when he worked for Republican candidate Trump's inaugural committee.

That is expected to continue on Wednesday - and then prosecutors are expected to have an opportunity to question Gates again and try to rehabilitate him.

Man City fullback Kyle Walker: The manager wants to go for everything
Which clubs do you think will achieve top four? Arsenal and Chelsea go into the brand new season with new managers at the helm. The Puma deal is a significant uplift for Man City who were getting an estimated £20 million a year under the old Nike deal.

After Yanukovych lost power in 2014, "I would say it decreased the income stream", Gates, wearing a blue suit, told the court matter-of-factly.

For this Manafort was paid US$4million a year, in quarterly payments of US$1million, Gates recalled, though at some point the currency switched from USA dollars to Euros. Previously, Gates revealed to the court and to the Special Counsel's Office that he had stolen hundreds of thousands of dollars from Manafort out of the foreign accounts when he faked expense reports.

When Trump asked Perlmutter, a friend and confidante, to help put together his government in December 2016, he agreed to be an outside adviser, selected veterans as his focus, and roped in two other friends, Palm Beach doctor Bruce Moskovitz and lawyer Marc Sherman, Arnsdorf says.

Manafort attorney Richard Westling also attempted to sow doubt in Magionos's testimony regarding the authenticity of the Manafort signature on various documents that were presented.

Kositzka, Wicks & Co. said in a statement Tuesday it was "shocked by Ms. Laporta's testimony, which clearly represents that she failed to meet the firm's high standards for professional and ethical conduct in her work for Mr. Manafort".

Rick Gates Testifies Against Former Mentor Paul Manafort in Special Counsel Trial
Gates admitted that at Manafort's behest, they later created a loan agreement for Lyovochkin's payment, though no loan existed. He has tweeted support for his former campaign manager, suggesting he has been treated worse than gangster Al Capone.
