Wimbledon: Kevin Anderson v John Isner no classic

Wimbledon: Kevin Anderson v John Isner no classic

Kevin Anderson has called for a rethink of the format of final sets in men's Grand Slam competitions after his win in Friday's epic Wimbledon semi-final.

Wimbledon doesn't use tiebreakers in the fifth set for men, or third set for women, so there's nothing to prevent a match from continuing ad infinitum.

"I don´t really know what to say right now, playing like that in those conditions was really tough for the both of us", said eighth seed Anderson.

"John is a great guy and I feel for him", Anderson told the BBC after Friday's match.

But no one expected the longest match played on Centre Court in history, one with a load of nerves.

Croatian-Canadians look forward to World Cup final with pride
He's had another 120 [minutes] and I don't know the full injury update. "I went overseas whenever it was possible to find a job". If you want to breed a winning mentality, you can not settle for fourth place.

But in spite of that extra time Anderson will have to recover, Isner reckons the 6ft 8in player will still struggle to match the level of physicality no matter whom he plays against.

Nicole Melichar and Kveta Peschke upset sixth seeds Gabriela Dabrowski and Yifan Xu 6-3 4-6 7-5 in two hours and 16 minutes to reach the women's doubles final. Not only is he advancing to the first Grand Slam semifinal of his career at Wimbledon, he and his wife, Highland Park native Madison McKinley, are expecting their first baby girl.

Anderson, who also won a marathon game against Roger Federer in the quarter-final, will face the either Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal in Sunday's final, both of whom sat in the locker room for the duration of the first final.

Predictably, the games went with serve in the second set, with Anderson earning a break-point in the ninth, but failing to capitalise. The fifth set lasted 175 minutes. Isner wasted a set point in the opener.

It was Isner who came into the semifinal without losing a service game, who was the better player in the first set. The American roared and turned to his box as he took the third set on his third set point. "They've paid to see two matches, and they came pretty close to only seeing one match", Anderson said.

Daniels has been entrenched in a legal controversy with Trump over their alleged 2006 encounter, which he has repeatedly denied. Avenatti wrote that Daniels would no longer be performing at Sirens on Thursday, "but is looking for another club in the area".

The right-handed Anderson slipped and fell, but scrambled back to his feet in time to hit a return left-handed and continue the point before Isner eventually pushed a forehand just wide.

Many would argue Anderson and Isner deserve similar recognition after the friends warmly embraced at the net before receiving a standing ovation from tennis's most famous centre-court crowd.

"I think it's long overdue", Isner said.

"Rafa and Djokovic, I don't even know, can they finish tonight?"
