Democrats Obstruct Peter Strzok Hearing, Demand Steve Bannon Be Subpoenaed

Peter Strzok testified publicly for the first time since being removed from special counsel Robert Mueller's team following the discovery of the texts a year ago.

Strzok goes on the defense in a two minute long diatribe, which many political pundits are already pointing out as the hearing's most authentic moments.

President Donald Trump may be out of the country, but Robert Mueller's investigation into possible ties between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation grinds on.

Republican Rep. Darrell Issa made Strzok read his texts aloud, including some with profane language.

Judiciary Committee Chairman Rep.

"Let me be clear, unequivocally and under oath: not once in my 26 years of defending my nation did my personal opinions impact any official action I took", he will say.

"The proposition that that is going on and that might occur anywhere in the Federal Bureau of Investigation deeply corrodes what the Federal Bureau of Investigation is in American society, the effectiveness of their mission, and it is deeply destructive", Strzok added. First, it mounted a cautious investigation of what almost everyone now acknowledges was a comprehensive effort by Russian Federation to help Trump get elected, an effort that people on the Trump campaign and even in Donald Trump's own family tried to cooperate with.

For much of Thursday, the hearing has been a disaster - for the GOP.

It's an interesting choice for the mother-to-be, who in the recent weeks has flaunted her growing bump in chic maternity wear. Taoiseach Leo Varadkar welcomed the new Duke and Duchess of Sussex to the government buildings on Tuesday.

"Furthermore, this isn't just me sitting here telling you, you don't have to take my word for it", Strzok said in a lengthy statement that ended with applause from Democrats.

The hearing reflected a little-discussed reality of public service: Law enforcement agents and other government workers are permitted to espouse political views but are expected to keep them separate from their work.

He insisted that separation was possible.

"I do not have bias", he continued, adding that he believed he was sacked not because his personal opinions impacted his work, but because the texts gave the "perception" of bias.

"We'll stop it", Strzok texted Page in August 2016 - apparently referring to the prospect of Trump being elected president, according to a June report by the inspector general.

"Mr. Gowdy, as I've stated, that text was written late at night in shorthand". "Sir, I completely disagree with you".

After the commotion died down, Gohmert used the remainder of his time to ask Strzok if he had spoken to Clinton more than once and to remark, incredulously, "So after throwing away what you have, with all the bias you have, you've never even gotten a thank you".

An FBI agent assailed as biased by Donald Trump after it emerged he railed against the president in private messages with his lover, said on Thursday such attacks are bolstering Russia's Vladimir Putin and tearing the United States apart. It simply couldn't happen. Democratic Rep. Steve Cohen of Tennessee said he would give Strzok a Purple Heart if he could. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Hillary Clinton.

Brexit chaos more nerve-wracking than the World Cup
Earlier staunch Brexiteer Dominic Raab was named as Mr Davis's replacement as Secretary of State for Leaving the EU. Merkel welcomed the fact that Britain had formulated a position to take into stalled negotiations with the EU.

Trump and his allies have suggested the texts are proof of a so-called deep state conspiracy against him, and that the Mueller probe is a politically motivated "witch hunt".

Page and Strzok exchanged text messages that were critical of then-presidential candidate Donald Trump during the 2016 election.

Texas Republican Louie Gohmert attacks Strzok personally, as fellow members of both committees act out in his defense. Gohmert speculated about whether he looked "so innocent" when he looked into his wife's eyes and lied about the affair. Because the facts, here on Planet Earth, show that they did what they were supposed to do: They began an investigation into this profound threat to American democracy, but kept quiet about it so it wouldn't affect the election. But Hillary lost and Peter Strzok is on the stand ... you're going to see him.

Gohmert cut him off, shouting, "It is to your credibility, and you lost your credibility!"

The hearing got heated when chairman Bob Goodlatte ordered Strzok to answer a question asked by congressman Trey Gowdy as Democrat committee members complained Goodlatte did not have the authority to do so.

Strzok said the comment was a response to Trump's recent actions on the campaign trail. "But the thought of exposing that information never crossed my mind", he said.

The sharp tone of Strzok's statement sets the stage for a contentious hearing following hours of closed-door questioning last week.
