Trump congratulates new leftist Mexico leader

The peso fell early Monday after Mexico handed Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador the presidency in a landslide victory, shifting the country's government away from establishment politics and to the left for the first time in decades.

A projection based on a vote count in 7,800 representative polling stations confirms the victory of Lopez Obrador, National Electoral Institute President Lorenzo Cordova said.

That violence was on many minds as television stations carried live images of Lopez Obrador weaving through Mexico City's notoriously chaotic traffic in the front passenger seat of a compact vehicle that was at least five years old.

"Mexico is a free country, it is a sovereign nation", Obrador said. In the event that President Trump continues his harmful and hurtful rhetoric and policies against Mexico and Mexicans, AMLO will have no choice but to take a strong stance.

He also once referred to Mr Trump as "erratic" and "arrogant" at a rally in Mexico City, NPR reported and also criticised Mr Trump's campaign promise to build a wall and said: "we won't allow his wall or mistreatment of our fellow migrants in the United States". Lopez Obrador has taken hits at Trump, and analysts have warned his win could ratchet up tensions between the USA and Mexico. "I desire with all my soul to raise the greatness of our country on high".

Lopez Obrador took between 53 and 53.8 per cent of the vote.

Extreme heat continues this week in Almaguin, North Bay
A new heat warning system is now in place to warn Nova Scotians when hot and humid weather has the potential to be harmful. The cool down will be short lived, as heat and humidity will return on Tuesday and persist through most of this week.

Carlos Urzua, Lopez Obrador's pick to be his finance minister when he takes office on December 1, told Reuters on Monday that the new government will aim to reform the pension system and to reduce costs at Pemex during its six-year term. "The changes will be profound, but in accordance with established order".

O'Grady added that she believes Lopez Obrador is going to be "very careful" at first, due to Mexico's exposure in the global market.

The 64-year-old candidate said fighting corruption would be the top goal of his government. Many danced to the trills of mariachi music.

Retired Susana Zuniga beamed as she said the country was experiencing a moment similar to the Mexican Revolution a century ago. "The people are fed up".

"We can bring a voice to the poor and marginalized, we can bring change, we can win". Sound familiar? As president, he may well be, at least in terms of temperament, the Trump of south of the border.

In his Facebook site, Bernie Sanders also congratulated Mexico's president-elect.

German government crisis: What are Merkel's options?
Her unpopular policy was a large reason why her party, the Christian Democratic Union, crashed and burned in last September's elections.

Lopez Obrador said individual and property rights would be guaranteed, promised respect for the autonomy of the central Bank of Mexico and said his government will maintain financial and fiscal discipline.

"There will be no confiscation or expropriation of assets".

The president-elect downplayed investors' concerns, although he said he will review energy contracts to make sure they're free of corruption. "I will not disappoint you and I will not betray my people", he said.

Lopez Obrador said he was entering the meeting with in a "conciliatory spirit" and he hopes for "a transition for the benefit of everyone".

Both of Lopez Obrador's opponents in Sunday's vote - Jose Antonio Meade, of the ruling PRI party, and the PAN Party's Ricardo Anaya - wished him success "for the well-being of Mexico".

A win for the conservative National Action Party is predicted in the central highland state of Guanajuato.

Royal honeymoon: the clues continue to roll in from Prince Harry
In the meantime, we'll just have to enjoy the dozens of epic style moments she's sure to have award-winning or not. She wore the printed Oscar de la Renta dress to Prince Harry's cousin's wedding retails for nearly $6,000.

In a tweet about the leftist populist candidate, Trump says: "I look very much forward to working with him".
