FPJ's dream XI predictions for Spain vs Russian Federation

Host nation Russian Federation faces Spain at Luzhniki stadium in Sunday's first of two knockout stage 2018 FIFA World Cup soccer games.

Andres Iniesta has announced his retirement from worldwide football following Spain's penalty-defeat to Russian Federation at the 2018 World Cup.

Russian Federation introduced Aleksandr Yerokhin for Daler Kuzyayev - the first time ever that a fourth substitute had been used at the World Cup - and Asensio fired straight at Akinfeev from the edge of the area before coming off for Rodrigo as Spain also used their fourth sub.

But it didn't matter, Denis Cheryshev scored Russia's fourth before Iago Aspas' spotkick was again saved by Akinfeev, sending Spain packing.

But the way the draw has worked out, England have been presented with an awesome chance to potentially reach their first World Cup final since 1966.

Igor Akinfeev the hero as Russian Federation dump Spain out after penalty shootout
Spain have not lost a match in two years while Russian Federation entered the tournament without winning a game in eight months. Spain's first corner of the match followed after 59 minutes, but Isco's cross was headed away by Dzubya.

Spain followed suit as Rodrigo replaced Asensio, and the former went closest to ending the impasse, sprinting towards goal after a clever dummy, only for Akinfeev to claw his shot away before the rebound from Koke was blocked.

Spain dominated the ball during the game - completing more than 1,000 passes - but was too passive against a well-organized Russian defense.

With five minutes left, Spain felt that they should have been awarded a penalty when both Pique and Ramos appeared to be hauled down inside of the box but VAR called for play to continue, much to the disgust of the Spain squad.

"We hope this isn't the last World Cup for this generation".

Luckily Russia was fortunate to equalize after Gerard Pique played the ball off his hand leading to spot kick, cooly taken by Russia's unsung hero of the tournament, Artem Dzyuba. He's bound to be a national icon and a hero after the performance of his life, and it's also one of the biggest upsets we've seen in Cup history when it comes to Federation Internationale de Football Association rankings.

How do you solve a problem like comedy in the age of Donald Trump? Conan remarked. "Not so good", Colbert responded. "Oh. Fallon asked. "I'm busy having no talent!" Both Fallon and Colbert used the bit as their cold opens on Tuesday.

"Let us say this openly, they are better than us in many ways, " he said.

Akinfeev dived right on Iago Aspas' kick and with his trailing left leg booted the ball to safety.

Lamenting his side's failure to make more of their chances, he said it was a great shame two years of hard work and good results had come to an end "in a shoot-out which is basically a lottery and we weren't lucky".
