Instagram Finally Adds Music to Soundtrack Your Stories

When you tap to add a sticker to a photo or video in Stories, choose the new music icon and pick from a collection of thousands of songs (new ones added every day), which you can search for by name, mood, or genre. Tracks can be previewed before they're added; Once chosen, you can fast forward or rewind so the tune starts at the moment you choose.

Instagram said its soundtrack feature is now available in selected countries, and the ability to select a track before capturing video is now only available on iOS. You can download Instagram from the App Store for free.

The feature is available today in Australia, New Zealand, France, Germany, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the U.S.A., with more countries coming.

If you use Instagram, there's a good chance you've tried out Stories, which lets you send timely updates to your followers in photo or video form. Before this, users were only able to add music to their Stories by playing a song out on their phone. The ability to choose a song before capturing video is now iOS only.

Instagram is still adding music, so if you don't see a band or a song that you want to add to your story, no worries! Be on the lookout for new songs to be added daily. The novelty is already rolling out on iOS and is said to be on its way to Android "soon".

Users can also queue up a song to play in the background as they record videos for their stories.
