Google Home is Down, Chromecast is Struggling Too (Updated: Fixed!)

Google Home devices responded to queries with "There was a glitch, try again in a few seconds".

"The fact that it's been twelve hours my Chromecast has not been working and we're only now finding out there's an issue because of @madebygoogle that is ridiculous", wrote one Twitter user.

A report in the technology website TechCrunch said the company had confirmed the outage, but had given no information about what had caused it or how many customers were affected. Google has confirmed there's indeed an ongoing problem affecting users of these devices, and a fix is on the way. Now Google says they are rolling out a fix but it could take up to 6 hours.

But it was only when the United States started waking up on Wednesday morning - the USA has the vast majority of Google Home devices - that the reports started flooding in, pointing to an outage of the entire system. I rebooted and reset.

The Google support Twitter account is now fielding a heap of complaints from users around the world, as owners of the Google Home, Google Home Mini, and Chromecast suddenly found themselves unable to perform basic functions like casting or voice commands.

The incident left Bottas with a punctured left-rear tyre and Vettel with a damaged front wing and a five-second time penalty. I've been struggling to get flawless laps this week -- I was catching up rung by rung, but a one-two here is great.

Users of the Chromecast Product Forum noticed the outage early on Wednesday morning (US time) when the Chromecast icon disappeared from streaming applications like Netflix, HBO and YouTube.

Twitter is now swamped with outraged users hashtagging #Chromecast left, right and center. However, users who wanted to get up and running sooner could do so by rebooting their device.

You should really push this info to people's Google Home apps.
