Amazon agrees to buy PillPack, an online pharmacy

Its entry into drug distribution is "a warning shot in what is about to become a major battle within the pharmacy space", said Neil Saunders, managing director of GlobalData Retail.

Pharmacy shareholders will perhaps find solace in the fact that they're not the only industry to have billions in market value erased by a single Amazon announcement.

The company's services are aimed at people who take multiple medications, delivering drugs in pre-sorted dose packages. Led by Parker, a licensed pharmacist, it was an early entrant into the field of online medication delivery.

Walmart was looking to buy PillPack for under $1 billion, CNBC had reported in April.

Teen charged and four arrested over Bronx machete murder
Lesandro "Junior" Guzman-Feliz was dragged out of a store on Bathgate Avenue and killed by a group of men with a machete. Federal agents rounded up dozens of the Trinitarios in 2009, but experts say the gang is making a comeback.

"Together with Amazon, we are eager to continue working with partners across the healthcare industry to help people throughout the United States who can benefit from a better pharmacy experience", PillPack co-founder and CEO TJ Parker said in a statement.

With its far-reaching and widely popular online site, Amazon moves closer to establishing beachheads in medicine chests across the USA and using that muscle to alter the traditional playbook for prescription drug distribution.

Amazon was vague in terms of what it plans to do with PillPack, other than supporting the startup's team as they "continue making it easy for people to save time, simplify their lives, and feel healthier", according to Amazon's worldwide consumer CEO Jeff Wilke.

PillPack was a 2014 finalist for Co.Design's Innovation By Design Awards.

FDA approves cannabis-based drug for epilepsy
Cannabis , including CBD, is a " schedule 1 " drug , meaning it has no medicinal value and poses a high risk for abuse. While there are other drugs approved to treat Lennox-Gastaut, there had previously been none for Dravet.

The deal comes as the health care industry is undergoing a series of convulsions in response to rising costs and pressure on drug makers, pharmacy benefit managers, and insurers.

Of course, Amazon is in the midst of developing a joint healthcare venture in partnership with the CEOs of Berkshire Hathaway and JP Morgan Chase.

The damage also spread through the pharmacy supply chain, with drug wholesalers seeing deep losses. The parties expect to close the transaction during the second half of 2018.

Five-goal Belgium say stand by for more
And there is room for Southgate to make sensible changes rather than wholesale alterations and still field a strong England side. Both teams have already secured their progression to the next round.
