President Trump Pushes Back On Immigration, Stands With So-Called ‘Angel Families’

The whiplash-inducing move caught several people by surprise.

MCALLEN, Texas After touring a border processing facility today, Democratic lawmakers said they weren't convinced the Trump administration had any real plan to reunite immigrant children separated from their parents by US border authorities.

On Wednesday, Trump repeatedly changed his mind about precisely what he wanted to do, and how, according to people familiar with the discussions. A senior Trump administration official said that about 500 of them have been reunited since May.

Responding to Trump's latest tweets, Democrats - who are optimistic they will pick up seats in both chambers of Congress in November - said it was Trump who is standing in the way of immigration reform and trying to create a political issue.

Dozens of protesters blocked a bus filled with migrant detainees as it tried to leave a border patrol processing center in McAllen, Texas.

A protester holds up a sign as mayors from US cities are stopped from entering the children's tent encampment built to deal with the Trump administrations "zero tolerance" policy in Tornillo, Texas, on June 21, 2018. The Justice Department wanted the prosecutions to continue.

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) - Democratic lawmakers are demanding that Republican Gov. Jeff Colyer be more aggressive in seeking answers about immigrant children housed in northeast Kansas group homes. In some courts, the average wait for an immigration hearing was over 1400 days; some hearings are being scheduled beyond 2021 before an available slot on the docket is found.

"Men and those 40 and over are more likely than women and younger voters to blame the parents when families are separated after attempting to enter the United States illegally, [while] most whites and other minority voters agree, [and] blacks are closely divided", the statistics indicated.

Republican leaders in the U.S. House of Representative still plan to bring an immigration bill up for a vote next week, despite Trump's urgings.

President Donald Trump said Friday Republicans should wait until after the November midterm elections to pass immigration legislation, undercutting Congress' ongoing efforts to pass a bill.

Federal agencies are working to set up a centralized reunification process for all remaining children at a detention centre in Texas, said the senior administration official, who was not authorized to discuss the matter publicly and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.

But stubborn differences between conservative and more moderate Republicans in the House have stalled immigration legislation on Capitol Hill, with a vote on a compromise measure delayed until next week.

He acknowledged that passing the bill would be an "uphill fight".

The two bills expected to the House floor Thursday address the family separations.

Approximately 2,300 children have been removed from their families since Mr Trump's "zero-tolerance" policy began in May, and housed in detention centres run by the Department of Health and Human Services.

A hardline bill, without provision for Dreamers, failed on Thursday.

A further analysis by gender and race shows that there are some distinct demographic divisions when it comes to contending who is to blame for family separations at America's southern border. "We're going to have a vote".

"Tens of thousands of people from impoverished, violence-stricken Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador and parts of Mexico have crossed the U.S. border since a year ago requesting asylum".

Calling for a "strong" border, he says: "We can not allow our Country to be overrun by illegal immigrants as the Democrats tell their phony stories of sadness and grief, hoping it will help them in the elections". "Obama and others had the same pictures, and did nothing about it!"
