Facebook itself is also ramping up its video offerings with original shows and this week announced new formats including interactive game shows, quizzes and polls.

"Since our launch in 2010, we've watched with amazement as the community has flourished and grown", Systrom said in a blog post. This is a major accomplishment - so from all of us at Instagram, thank you!

There are a few notable differences between the three though. Also, unlike on Instagram, videos aren't limited to one minute.

But while the convenience of watching full-screen vertically could be a hit, viewers may not be as pleased about burning their data to load hour-long videos.

Japan turn attention to Senegal game after opening win
This is my favourite moment of the World Cup so far; Japan fans picking up litter after their victory vs Columbia. The Colombians bitterly protested but Kagawa drilled home the spot kick to put Japan ahead in the sixth minute.

"We strived to make it simple, too. IGTV is focused on the creators you love most and already follow on Instagram". There are only a few categories - For You, Following, Popular and Continue Watching.

IGTV also has channels, just like real TV, but here creators themselves are the channels. If you're not into that video, swipe to check out other creators' channels.

Though there won't be ads on IGTV to start, Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom has said advertising "is obviously a very reasonable place to end up" and that creators will have a way to make a living.

IGTV is essentially a video platform, similar to YouTube, where each creator has their own channel which users can choose to follow to stay updated on.

U.S. withdrawal from UN Human Rights Council is regrettable
Diplomats have told The Associated Press that a USA withdrawal from the 47-member council could come as early as Tuesday. But activists said the U.S. move could hurt efforts to monitor and address human rights abuses around the world.

With IGTV, Instagram "begins a new chapter of video", perhaps one that Snapchat actually started quite some time ago.

Instagram said the new service would be live from Wednesday and would roll out to all users on iOS and Android over the coming weeks. The app also features an option to share IGTV videos on Facebook Watch, another TV-like service provided by IG's parent-site.

What you'll see when you first open up IGTV is a full screen video - something that has been curated for you - behind a row of tabs.

Business-wise, the move makes ideal sense.

Match victor Mbappe draws praise from Deschamps
Physically, France were stronger and fitter and it showed on countless occasions - especially 50-50 challenges and aerial battles. Many thought that the inevitable were to happen, and a goal for Peru at that stage of the game would have been well deserved.

Moments after hearing the news, some of my colleagues opened Instagram on their mobile phones and found that the in-app IGTV feature was already added. Courting stars to post videos on their platforms is part of their strategy. "Instagram is in a position of strength and this is both an offensive and defensive strategic move for them".
