Google silently exits the tablet market

The declining interest in Android tablets has been highlighted in a report by Digitimes Research which claimed that 33 million tablets were shipped in the first quarter of 2018.

The tablet page is back, with information about the Pixel C, Nvidia Shield Tablet K1, Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 and Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet.

On Friday, Android Police noticed that the tablet section of the Android website is no longer around. Sometime in the last 24 hours, the entire tablet section on the Android website has been removed with the now-defunct direct link to the page now redirecting to the site's homepage.

These are expected to be new tools related to augmented reality , which will help developers create better AR apps for the iPhone. Most excitingly many expect to see support for sleep monitoring, after Apple acquired sleep startup Beddit in May previous year .

Google has always struggled to compete against iOS in the tablet market and is likely to focus on Chrome OS in the future. And Dexter M: "Nice, but can someone fix the bug where Google has forgotten to make Nexus / Pixel tablets?" Evidence that there were, once upon a time, such things as Android tablets has since then returned but their sudden and silent removal served to confirm what many have been expecting to happen sooner rather than later.

This goes a long way towards explaining how Google's engineers might have overlooked the category while updating the website.

The tablet section was still up on Thursday.

Victor Moses was the last to arrive camp and he has had just one training session with us and will have another today (Friday). Gary Cahill and Raheem Sterling are both handed starts in England's friendly worldwide with Nigeria at Wembley Stadium.

In case Google does stop supporting Android tablets, there's still hope for people who like big screen devices.

There seems little room for Android and Chrome OS to coexist on the same form factor, especially with native support for Android apps being baked directly into Chrome OS. Google may be seeing the writing on the wall and has quietly removed the "Tablets" heading from its Android website. But tablets are unable to gain a foothold in the market due to the lack of decent technical support and a number of other shortcomings. Last year, research firms IDC and Strategy Analytics reported that the iPad series remained in the top position of the tablet market by quite a large margin.

England's Dele Alli booed by Nigeria fans at Wembley
Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford , making only his third global appearance, hardly had a save to make in the first half. So why is one of Ogu and Agu, the likely player to be dropped from the squad when they are seemingly better than Onazi?
