A student at the middle school said he saw his science teacher tackle a fellow student who fired shots inside the classroom.

Exactly a week later, Noblesville West Middle School in IN has become the latest victim of gun violence, as a teacher and teenage girl have been critically injured after a gunman opened fire.

Students were being taken to nearby Noblesville High School, where parents were asked to pick them up.

Noblesville, which is about 20 miles (32 kilometers) northeast of Indianapolis, is home to about 50,000 people.

Parents were advised that if they did not receive a phone call from school officials, their children were fine. The adult patient was transported to IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, according to an IU Health spokesman.

The suspected shooter asked to be excused from class and returned to the room with two handguns, Jowitt said.
