The latest on the Texas school shooting

Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman stretches during batting practice before a baseball game against the San Francisco Giants, Tuesday, May 22, 2018, in Houston.

In April 2007, a senior at the university committed the deadliest school shooting in modern USA history, killing 32 people and injuring 17 others in two separate attacks on campus - one in a co-ed dormitory and the other in the Engineering, Science and Mechanics building.

That's in sharp contrast to the response to the February 14 shooting rampage at a high school in Parkland, Florida, that left 17 dead. "School starts in the fall, and we can't be fooling around".

Watt previously raised $31m (£23m) to support victims of Hurricane Harvey, which devastated the Houston area in 2017.

The Republican-controlled legislature is out of session until January 2019, making it almost impossible for the state to implement and fund any major changes that come out of this week's talks.

Abbott planned to talk Wednesday with gun-rights advocates and gun-control groups, followed Thursday by meetings with survivors of the Santa Fe shooting and the November assault on a church in the rural village of Sutherland Springs, where more than two dozen worshippers were killed.

At yet another school, a student reportedly texted someone else asking them to bring a gun to campus.

The Texas State Rifle Association, which has played a key role in getting state lawmakers to relax gun licensing and passing open-carry laws in recent years, dismissed a call for new gun restrictions.

Malaysia's anti-graft chief says received death threat, witnesses went missing
Swarmed by reporters, Najib arrived at the MACC headquarters in Kuala Lumpur wearing an open-neck shirt and looking relaxed. The money was in addition to about $700 million that US investigators said ended in Najib's bank account.

"They think we're leftist nutcases coming for everyone's guns", she said. But critics say Texas isn't serious about changing its gun-loving culture.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott attended the Sunday service.

Current policy responses do not address the fundamental question of why so many mass shootings take place in schools.

The Texas Democratic Party in a statement called the roundtable meetings "theatrics" and chastised Abbott for holding the discussions behind closed doors. When a man killed more than two dozen people at a church a year ago in Sutherland Springs, Texas, the state's attorney general, Ken Paxton, said there ought to be more guns in churches.

Abbott says everyone shares a "common goal - to protect innocent lives".

The shooter was hiding a shotgun underneath a long coat Friday morning when he walked onto the campus, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick said.

Shana Fisher, 16, was one of 10 people shot and killed at Texas's Santa Fe High School on Friday, May 18.

"I think every parent probably instinctively knows they don't know everything about their kids, but when you find out something like's extremely hard", Poehl said. She said teachers should be armed.

PM to table Brexit border plans 'shortly'
Varadkar said: "We need to have that backstop because that gives us the assurance that there will be no hard border on our island".

"At this point, from everything we know, it doesn't appear like this kid had the kind of warning signs of someone that you would normally associate with someone involved in something like this", he said.

Pagourtzis' attorneys told reporters that their client was "in a state", while the sheriff in the southeast Texas county of Galveston said the 17-year-old was being held "under suicide watch". His voice cracks as he describes how he told police to let him inside the school so his son could kill him instead.

Police said Pagourtzis confessed to Friday's killings after he was taken into custody but authorities have offered no motive yet for the massacre.

"Once the scene was somewhat secure, I was contacted by my father who could not reach my mom", he said. But authorities now believe those two were not connected to the crime, the official said.

Dimitrios worked out and didn't drink or get into fights, he told the station.

"Many of these young boys have been on Ritalin since they were in kindergarten", he told Fox News.

Two teachers and eight students, including Pakistani exchange student Sabika Sheikh, 17, were killed in the attack, police said. "I have the same exact pain", Pagourtzis said, according to a translation of the interview.

The Cavaliers sagged in the second half, where they were outscored 59-39 and that did not please their coach Tyronn Lue . A year ago, Kyrie Irving averaged 25.8 points in the Cavs' five-game rampage over the Celtics in the conference finals.
