Rain ruins Ireland's opening day of maiden Test

Ireland will not make their much-awaited historic Test debut until Saturday after the first day of their match against Pakistan was washed out.

"We've mentioned it amongst the squad, it would be pretty remiss if we didn't talk about everything that's gone before us".

"Every one that's ever worn the jersey and done things behind the scenes and devoted their lives to it deserve a lot of credit for what's going to happen tomorrow".

"In my career personally, we have gone from not having ODI status to having ODI status and everything else, now we'll be going out there and playing the first Test match for Ireland", said the skipper.

"Before taking any decision we will definitely discuss the situation with both the ICC security and Pakistan counterparts, but I can see that in the near future, a tour to Pakistan is possible", Deutrom added.

"It would be great if we could play quite a few Tests a year, but it is not financially viable as it stands", the 33-year-old added.

From here on, more people will pick up the game and more kids will play the game as well.
