Snapchat Snappables Launched, New Lenses for AR Games With Friends

While there have been some wacky implementations of its augmented reality (AR) technology in the past, the firm is taking that technology and applying to something new by introducing Snappables. The Snapchat Lens Studio is a self-serve platform that allows developers and creators its augmented reality tools.

To play Snappables games all you have to do is click on the background of a photo or video, just like you're about to use a Lens, but these will be on the left of the camera instead of the right. According to the company, Snappables will have a special objective in the upcoming augmented reality games. The update aims to get users to use Lenses and in turn, spend more time in the app exploring other features such as Snapchat Stories and Snapchat's Discover feature.

Some of the games will offer traditional leaderboards which you will be able to challenge your friends to beat your high scores on.

As witnessed in the Snappables trailer, you can fight aliens in an Space Invaders-style game by moving your head around, or pump iron at the gym with your eyebrows.

The latest Snappables feature will be rolled out to Android and iOS devices by the end of this week, the company has confirmed.
