North Atlantic Treaty Organisation backs Syria strikes, United Nations appeals for restraint

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on Saturday backed the joint airstrikes carried out by the USA, United Kingdom and France in Syria. The minister said strikes conducted by French air force in Syria not targeted at Syria's allies.

"I urge all member states to show restraint in these unsafe circumstances and to avoid any acts that could escalate the situation and worsen the suffering of the Syrian people".

'The three leaders agreed that the military strikes taken against the Syrian Regime's chemical weapons sites had been a success, ' a No 10 spokesman said.
