Trump Reverses, Says He'll Keep US Troops in Syria

US President Donald Trump has agreed in a National Security Council meeting this week to keep US troops in Syria a little longer to defeat Islamic State but wants them out relatively soon, a senior administration official says.

Regardless of exactly when the troops leave, the decision to remove them as soon as possible has forced an immediate realignment of long-term USA objectives in the country, officials said.

"Our primary mission in terms of Syria was getting rid of ISIS", Trump said, using an acronym for the Islamic State group.

However, once the mission to destroy ISIS is completed, the US can focus on withdrawal, the statement said.

Cardi B feat. Migos - 'Drip'
Cardi B has quite the schedule following her album release as she is scheduled to perform on Saturday Night Live this week. Drip is the latest track to be released from the upcoming album, Invasion of Privacy , which is due out tomorrow.

As they spoke, Trump said at the White House he wanted "to get out".

While there is no date set, Trumps decision to withdraw from Syria has created concern for several reasons.

USA officials say the president was hesitant about keeping the 2,000 troops in the war torn country, but did so in an effort to commit to his promise to destroy the Islamic State.

Last week he ordered the USA... His later offer to mediate between Turkey and SDF, as well as his pledge - according to Kurdish representatives attending the meeting - to send French soldiers to Manbij to help the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK)-affiliated YPG against possible Turkish moves, drew an angry reaction from Ankara.

Trump Orders US National Guard to 'Protect Mexico Border'
The president has the legal authority to do this, as long as governors of border states acquiesce - and agree to foot the bill. Congress to insist the president deal with Mexico "on the basis of respect and collaboration".

In January, Turkish forces and their Free Syrian Army proxies began "Operation Olive Branch" to drive the YPG from border areas. It would not be realistic to think that the defense bureaucracy shares Trump's stance on the issue, especially considering both the Russian and Iranian presence and the effective cooperation against US designs in the region.

Master Sgt. Jonathan J. Dunbar, 36, of Austin, Texas, died March 30 in Manbij, Syria as a result of injuries when an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated near his patrol. Russian President Vladimir Putin met his Turkish and Iranian counterparts in Ankara today for their latest summit on Syria's future. "They're pointing weapons to deter Turkey, an ostensible North Atlantic Treaty Organisation ally fighting for control of non-ISIS held territory in northern Syria against a Syrian-Kurdish faction we help", said Ford, now a fellow at Yale University and the Middle East Institute.

Waltz said Syria could once again become a base for ISIS to plan attacks around the world. CENTCOM's Gen. Joseph Votel, USAID's Administrator Mark Green, and special envoy Brett McGurk, who were not responding directly to the president's comment, said at the U.S. Institute of Peace that the U.S. should continue its mission to defeat ISIS and help rebuild Iraq and Syria. "It's time. We were very successful against ISIS". "And we're thinking about that very seriously".

There could be a solid foreign policy argument to be made for withdrawing US troops. "We'll be making a decision very quickly". As he transitions to a new national security team, Trump has made clear he wants advisers who agree in principle with his core beliefs.

Yemen rebels hit Saudi tanker in Red Sea, Saudi Arabia claims
Saudi Arabia has repeatedly accused Iran of supplying the rebels with missiles and other arms, accusations denied by Tehran. A fisherman pulls in his net as an oil tanker is seen at the port in the northwestern city of Duba April 20, 2013.

Trump's comments come amid talks between Turkish and USA officials over a road map for Manbij, including the withdrawal of the PKK terrorist group's Syrian affiliate People's Protection Units (YPG) and the return of US weapons provided to the group.
