Seven candidates eye 2026 Winter Olympics

"It's no surprise that so many incredible cities have come forward to compete for the Olympic Winter Games in 2026 and 2030", said Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti. "The IOC has turned the page with regard to Olympic candidatures", IOC President Thomas Bach said in a statement.

Seven countries are interested in hosting the 2026 Winter Olympics.

Dubi spent much of the call defending the perceived weaknesses of each city, explaining that "a referendum is very much welcome" and necessary to measure public support.

The cities will now enter a dialogue stage until October when the International Olympic Committee will invite an unspecified number of them to take part in the one-year candidature phase.

We must make the gender pay gap a thing of the past
It is not the same as equal pay, where firms are required to pay people doing the same job the same salary regardless of gender. The #PayMeToo campaign aims to support women in lobbying their bosses to end gender pay discrepancies in their companies.

Following their declaration of interest, Erzurum, which is hoping to be the first-ever Turkish city to host an Olympic Games, will now enter the dialogue stage with the IOC to explore the requirements of hosting the Games.

Calgary hosted the 1988 Winter Games and Sapporo staged the 1972 event, while Cortina organized the 1956 Winter Olympics. Innsbruck exited the 2026 race last year after losing a referendum, and several other Summer and Winter bids in the past few years have fallen victim to the same.

Dubi said there is also a built-in advantage for areas that are already global sports destinations.

For the 2018 Olympics, South Korea´s Pyeongchang was opposed by only two other candidates while Beijing won the right to host the 2022 Games against competition from just one other city.

Spy poisoning could be in interests of British government, says Lavrov
Two planes from Washington and NY reportedly landed at Moscow's Vnukovo airport carrying US-based diplomats and their families. Zakharova also told reporters in Moscow that Britain is breaking global law by refusing to provide information on the case.

"We don't see a problem with this, on the contrary", said Dubi.

"We have a strong legacy of sport in this city and we know we can host a great Games, and now, alongside our partners in the Government of Alberta and the Government of Canada, we can continue to figure out if a 2026 Bid is the best interests of our citizens".

The vote is scheduled for September 2019.

'Affluenza teen' Ethan Couch prepares to leave jail Monday
Many argue it was his wealthy parents, who paid to have their son's jail sentences dropped, and have him placed on probation. A psychologist at his manslaughter trial blamed his actions on " affluenza ", or irresponsibility due to family wealth.
