Malala visits her home town where she was shot

It is still not clear whether Malala would visit her hometown of Swat, where she was shot in the head in October 2012 by Taliban gunmen for actively supporting girls' right to education.

The 20-year-old, who is now a student at Oxford University, was accompanied by the Pakistani military during her visit on Saturday to Swat Valley, which was once a militant stronghold.

Mr Hassan said Ms Yousafzai and her family were not afraid of going to Swat, where Taliban militants wounded her six years ago.

It had been unclear if the 20 year old would visit the area because of security concerns.

"We're very happy that Malala has come to Pakistan". Security was visibly increased in Mingora the previous day. "God willing, there will be thousands of girls like Malala getting an education" in Swat.

Yousafzai arrived in Pakistan on Thursday at Benazir Bhutto International Airport flanked by heavy security in the early hours of Thursday morning, CNN affiliate Geo TV reported. The Taliban later said it had carried out the attack for her promotion of liberalism. And it declared November 10 Malala Day - a day of action to focus on "Malala and the 32 million girls like Malala not at school".

Pakistanis awakening to the news she was back in the country flooded social media with messages of welcome - but others accused her of a conspiracy to foment dissent.

While the school stands as a pioneer of a strong initiator of education to all, it also attracts threat and fear waves of targeted attacks by terrorists, because its funding and support is coming from Malala Yousafzai, who herself was shot for promoting girl education.

Public opinion on Malala is still divided in Pakistan, where some conservatives accuse her of being a Western agent, intent on shaming her country.

"What I want is for people to support my objective of education and think about the daughters of Pakistan who need an education", she told Pakistan's The News in comments published on Saturday. Don't think about me.

Malala received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014. 'Now I have to continue my education overseas, ' she added.
