Undergoes successful surgery, could miss two months — Madison Bumgarner

Bumgarner underwent successful surgery Saturday to fix his fractured fifth metacarpal, Amy Gutierrez of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Though a significant blow to the 2018 Giants, this injury earned Bumgarner a lot less ridicule than the one that sent him to the disabled list previous year.

Following the game, Bumgarner said he would have pins placed in his hand on Saturday to help the healing of the bone.

"It's tough. But I can handle it", Bumgarner said. He added that his teammates can handle it as well. Last season was the first time since he started 18 games in 2010 that he didn't have at least 31 starts for the season. "But it happened and I can deal with it".

German court orders Puigdemont held pending extradition
Shortly after Puigdemont's arrest in Germany, Torrent denounced that "the time is serious", stressing its "clear exceptionality". The worldwide arrest warrant for Puigdemont was reactivated on Friday, when he was visiting Finland.

The left-hander, the MVP in the 2014 World Series, missed nearly three months in 2017 after suffering an accident on a dirt bike April 20 while enjoying a day off.

Bochy said the injury was disappointing and that he feels for Bumgarner.

Anthony DeSclafani was in line to start the opener in each of the last two years, but injuries in spring training left him sidelined.

After six straight seasons with double-digit wins, more than 200 innings and 30-plus starts, Bumgarner went 4-9 with a 3.32 ERA in 17 starts last season and threw 111 innings.

"He'll go a week without throwing the ball and then crank it back up", Bochy told reporters.

First came the report that Jeff Samardzija would be out up to five weeks because of a strained right pectoral muscle.

The Giants open the regular season in Los Angeles against the Dodgers on Thursday.

Bochy was visibly upset about the Samardzija injury saying he did not want to speak about it since it was such bad news.
