Forbes reveals the five richest people on Earth

Bezos, who also owns The Washington Post newspaper, is the first person to cross the $100 billion mark in assets, Forbes said.

Asia Pacific boasts the most number of billionaires at 827 with a total net worth of US$2.75 trillion. Their average net worth is a record $4.1 billion.

Bezos and Gates are trailed by American investor Warren Buffet - with an estimated fortune of $84 billion - followed by Frenchman Bernard Arnault, the head of LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton SE, with a net worth of $72 billion, climbing seven positions and Europe's richest person.

Premji moved up from the 72nd global spot in 2017 with $14.9 billion, to the 58th rank with $18.8 billion this year.

The Forbes World's Billionaires list includes 2,208 people from all over the world whose fortunes are calculated to be at least $1 billion.

Bill Gates, Microsoft's co-founder and an occasional bridge partner of Buffett's, ranks second on the Forbes list with wealth of $90 billion.

He has been ranked #1374 on the list.

Gates, who heads the world's biggest philanthropic organisation, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, has donated a lot of his assets to charities.
