Apple Reportedly Working on Wireless Over-the-Ear Headphones

There are plans to release the headphones as early as the end of this year, though challenges with development could delay the release, sources familiar with the matter told Bloomberg. That is not too surprising, given that Apple puts so much focus on the look and feel of products. But the category has seen a 36 percent boost in revenue in the company's latest quarter, and Apple CEO Tim Cook praised the AirPods' success as "quite the cultural phenomenon" during his meeting with shareholders at Apple Park last month.

Bloomberg says the headphones will also include "similar wireless pairing functionality" to Apple's AirPods earbuds, suggesting they will likely include Apple's W1 wireless chip (or its successor) and connect to iPhones and iPads more seamlessly than other devices. There is also the possibility that Apple will push back the release even further or scrap the project altogether.

A pair of wireless headphones, to rival those produced by Bose, Sennheiser, and Beats itself, seems like a logical step for Apple. If you are a big fan of Sony's Headphones and looking for one, Amazon is offering great discount on a popular Sony WH1000XM2 Headphones which will save you $52 extra on the base price. The Apple headphones will likely use similar audio technology, driving up costs.
