Billy Graham's groundbreaking work in North Korea

Billy Graham's groundbreaking work in North Korea

Mourners from around the world gathered Friday under a large white tent in what was described as the "last crusade" for Billy Graham, who was revered as "America's pastor" for more than six decades and counseled almost every USA president since Harry Truman.

Ahead of the ceremony, a steady stream of mourners braved brisk winds, some of them sharing how Graham's preaching enriched their lives.

President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence will attend the funeral and will be escorted by Graham's grandson, a Major in the United States Army.

The world-renowned evangelist is credited with inspiring more than 3 million people to commit their lives to Christ in a ministry that spanned 185 of the world's 195 countries, according to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. He said of his father, "The Billy Graham that the world saw on television, the Billy Graham that the world saw in the big stadiums, was the same Billy Graham that we saw at home".

Like a modern-day Moses, Lotz said her father brought liberation to people through the Gospel and she sincerely believes her father's death on February 21 at the age of 99 "is a shot across the bow from Heaven".

Trump did not speak at the ceremony honoring Graham, who died February 21 at 99.

The university, in Mount Pleasant , identified the victims as James Eric Davis Sr. and Diva Jeenen Davis, the suspect's parents. The shooting at CMU comes just two weeks after a gunman killed 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida.

Ruth Graham's parents were Christian missionaries in Pyongyang, a city once called the "Jerusalem of the East".

Rev. Graham will be buried next to his wife, Ruth.

"Emotional and inspiring service for Reverend Billy Graham", Pence tweeted after the funeral. For his family, the idea became capturing the feeling of the crusades that made Graham "America's Pastor" and the world's best-known Protestant preacher of his era.

Former presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton came to the public viewing of Graham's casket in Charlotte earlier in the week. He had spoken briefly Wednesday at a ceremony for Graham at the Capitol, where the preacher's body lay in honor.

Graham's four other children and his sole surviving sister, Jean Ford, spoke briefly, mixing family jokes that made Trump chortle with tearful memories of their father. He said he made a personal commitment to God in 1934 after hearing an evangelist preach.

He added: "There weren't two Billy Grahams".

"If Franklin, in his theological universe, understands Trump to have confessed and asked for forgiveness, then there's no problem", said Anne Blue Wills, a religion professor at Davidson College near Charlotte, North Carolina.

"He was faithful. He was available and he was teachable", son Nelson "Ned" Graham told the service.

Warren said Graham was a major influence on how he learned how to preach.

"There's nothing wrong with us supporting candidates that support religious freedom that support values that we hold very dear", Franklin Graham said.

The service featured songs from gospel musicians who performed at Graham's events: McCrary-Fisher, Michael W. Smith and the Gaither Vocal Band.

The funeral served as a Billy Graham crusade told through his children.

Beyoncé also seems to allude to her meeting with Tiffany Haddish , which the comedian promptly told virtually everyone about. In a February interview, Haddish had recounted her brush with Beyonce , and how the star keeps ladies away from her husband.

Franklin, now CEO of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, wrapped up with his father's central theme - that the only path to salvation is to accept Jesus Christ.
