Small asteroid to pass close to Earth, NASA says

An asteroid, estimated to be between 15 and 30 metres in size, will safely pass by Earth on Friday, National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has said. According to the scientists at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in La CaƱada Flintridge, there is absolutely no chance that the asteroid will impact our planet.

According to the astronomers, our planet will have a close encounter with an asteroid which is between 50 and 130 feet wide. Known as 2018 CC, the object made its closest approach to Earth on 6 February at a distance of about 184,000km (114,000 miles).

The moon is an average of 240,000 miles from Earth.

Astronomers take these opportunities to learn more about asteroids, such as their composition.

The investment immediately secured it the fifth-biggest grocery retailer in the nation, according to critics at Cowen. In addition, Amazon discounted the price of some of the items at the 457 Whole Foods Stores after the acquisition.

While 2018 CB is too small for amateur telescopes, it can be viewed live online with the Virtual Telescope Project. It measures from 0.3 miles to 0.75 miles across. That's less than one-fifth the distance to the moon.

While Friday's close approach isn't a huge deal, Chodas reported that "this was a reminder that asteroids this size can pass very close to our planet and it's important to find these objects when they do get to close".

"Maybe only once or twice a year", he was quoted in a press release.

Neither asteroid poses a threat to Earth.

Recently NASA announced that two small potentially hazardous asteroids would zoom past earth in close flyby within a week.

Additionally, the space agency has several ongoing missions in space that concern asteroid.
