Mumbai helicopter missing: ONGC CMD rushes to Mumbai

"ONGC confirms that the Pawan Hans Chopper with seven persons including two pilots and five ONGC officers crashed in the sea today morning".

The helicopter carrying 7 ONGC employees went missing after taking off from the western city.

The company has key oil and gas fields off the Mumbai coast.

The debris of the helicopter has also been recovered. "ONGC has pressed its helicopter and speedboats for search operation as soon as the information received by the Helibase Control Room", read an ONGC statement. The reason for the crash has not been announced so far.

The helicopter had 3 hour and 10 minutes of fuel onboard. "Seaking 42B helicopter being launched in addition", the Indian Navy tweeted.

Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has also been apprised of the situation and Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan said that he is going to Mumbai to coordinate things. The bodies were then taken to Cooper Hospital for post-mortem. "Only after the body of the chopper including its black box is located can the cause of the accident be found", a senior DGCA official said.
