Channing Tatum's long-delayed Gambit movie loses another director

It is the latest turn on the project, which at previous points had Doug Liman and Rupert Wyatt attached to direct the pic about Gambit/Remy LeBeau (Tatum), who has the ability to charge matter with volatile kinetic energy, turning anything he touches into a weapon.

Deadline says Verbinski's parting of the ways is amicable ("scheduling issues"), and that Channing Tatum, who's always been attached to the film in the titular role, is still onboard.

"Gambit" is once again without a director - prompting the producers to delay the upcoming film's premiere. Tatum still remains on board, and from what we understand, the search for a replacement is already underway.

Essentially, it will be trading places with another of Fox's "X-Men" films, "The New Mutants", which had been scheduled for June 7, 2019, but which will now land February 22, 2019.

CES 2018: Power outage at tech's biggest trade show
The lights went out here shortly after 11 am on the second day of the show. CES attracts about 180,000 attendees and roughly 4,000 exhibitors.

Verbinski's credits include A Cure For Wellness, The Lone Ranger, three Pirates of the Caribbean film blockbusters, The Ring and Rango. No reason is given for the director's abrupt exit [UPDATE: It is reportedly due to a scheduling conflict], but Verbinski is now the third director to leave the project, which does not bode well.

Taylor Kitsch first played The Gambit on screen in the 2009 film "X-Men Origins: Wolverine".

For a slam dunk idea like Channing Tatum playing roguish X-Men member Gambit in his own film, Gambit continues to struggle along through its pre-production phase.

The film was expected to go into production in March, which now seems unlikely.

Mark Helfrich Set to Become Chicago Bears Offensive Coordinator
It was a coup, as the Rams won the NFC West with an 11-5 record and McVay was named Pro Football Weekly's 2017 Coach of the Year. The first hire came on their offensive line, as they announced the hiring of Harry Hiestand as their new offensive line coach.

That's four months after its previous release date of Valentine's Day 2019, presumably enough time for the studio to find another director.

The good news for Deadpool fans is that the sequel has actually been brought forward by two weeks and so will be releasing on May 18 instead of June 1.

For anyone who watched X-Men in the '90s or is familiar with the comics, Gambit is one of those characters who has yet to get a fair shake in terms of adaptations.
