About 3000 Ford Rangers Recalled Over Explosion Dangers In Air Bags

Traffic officials are warning drivers of 2006 model of the Ford Ranger that the truck's airbags are an "immediate risk to safety".

Ford said the death happened on July 1 in West Virginia and was reported to the auto maker on December 22.

Ford said it inspected the vehicle on December 27, confirmed that the inflator ruptured resulting in a driver fatality and notified NHTSA. This is the second fatality reported to Ford due to a Takata inflator rupture.

If your vehicle does have a recall, call your local dealer to schedule the free fix. The prior fatality was reported in January 2016.

The president appeared to both criticize and back the legislation, which the House reauthorized by a vote of 256-164 Thursday. She suggested reporters were the only ones left confused, prompting Trump to issue a second tweet almost two hours later.

Ford, in a statement, said it is saddened by the deaths and offers its honest condolences to the drivers' families. Of the 391,000 recalled, the new warning involves 2,900 vehicles, including 2,700 in the US and almost 200 in Canada.

A Takata spokesman said the company will make all attempts to ensure it can deliver replacement inflators as soon as possible.

Ford said it would pay to have vehicles towed to dealerships or send mobile fix teams to owners' homes and provide free loaner vehicles if needed. "It is extremely important that all high-risk air bags are tracked down and replaced immediately", NHTSA spokeswoman Karen Aldana said. NHTSA must do more, he said, to make the recall a priority.

The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on Saturday posted a notice from Takata which stated that it would be recalling another 3.3 million inflators for vehicles from various automakers ranging from Toyota, Honda Motor Co, BMW AG, Daimler AG, General Motors Co, Tata Motors Jaguar Land Rover unit and Subaru Corp.
