Samsung had a record-breaking 2017 thanks to its chip business

Samsung Electronics expects its Q4 operating profit to grow 63.8 percent year-on-year to KRW 15.1 trillion (USD 14.1 billion).

The company estimated operating profits of 15.1 trillion won ($14.1 billion) in the October to December period, an all-time high for quarterly profits and almost double the 9.2 trillion won posted a year earlier.

Samsung Electronics, the world's largest maker of memory chip, flat screen and TV, posted its biggest-ever operating profit in 2017, the South Korean company said Tuesday. The company generated an operating profit of 15.1 trillion won (around $14 billion) in the October-December period - a 68.8 percent increase compared with the year before.

South Korean stocks finished lower on January 9 due to tech losses, triggered by Samsung Electronics' weaker-than-expected earnings estimates due to the strengthening local currency, analysts said. This is provided as a service to investors prior to LG Electronics' final earnings results including net profit and details regarding each division which will be announced officially later this month.
