Bankrupt peripherals company Mad Catz is making a comeback

"Less than a year after the much-loved brand disappeared from the gaming landscape, Mad Catz is back: under new management, with new ideas, new attitude and most importantly, an entire range of new, high-quality gaming products", the company said in a statement.

Among the new hardware announced is a new wireless version of the Rat mouse, the Rat Air.

The company wants to tap the growing user base under the Home entertainment systems market for compact and affordable projectors. It is also preloaded with WebOS 3.5 Smart TV interface, that allows users to access popular online streaming services.

A post-bankruptcy acquisition of the brand and its assets, though, means that Mad Catz lives on under new ownership.

Four days into 2018 and already we hear big surprises in the gaming industry, and nothing is as surprising as finding out that Mad Catz is coming back to the industry nearly a year after going bankrupt. There will be another wireless gaming R.A.T. mouse, new S.T.R.I.K.E. mechanical keyboards, as well as other units like F.R.E.Q. gaming headsets and G.L.I.D.E. gaming surfaces, although more details are bound to be confirmed about these products during CES 2018. The company is now known as Mad Catz Global Limited, with its headquarters located in Kowloon, Hong Kong. According to Verrey, rather than be led by management and design teams based out of California and the UK, Mad Catz Global is being run out of Asia by the people who formerly manufactured the products. Three new products were also announced in the press release - the R.A.T. AIR, S.T.R.I.K.E. 4, and F.R.E.Q. 4. A teaser video for the resurrection of Mad Catz can be seen below. New Mad Catz peripherals will be on display at next week's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, which include new peripherals for PC users.

"We can't wait to unveil a little more at CES 2018 and in the months to come". For the sake of the accessory maker's future, this hopefully means it has learned from the fiasco stemming from Rock Band 4's sales failures, which almost bled the company dry.

The first of the new Mad Catz products will be previewed at CES, which begins on Sunday. The director continued to state that "we're already working on delivering products which we believe will enhance gamers' abilities and do justice to the Mad Catz name". Mad Catz will focus first on quality over quantity, Verrey said, with a primary interest in PC gaming peripherals.
