Apple is being sued for intentionally slowing down its older iPhones

People who owned iPhone 6, 6s, and 6s Plus devices have been complaining that their devices shut down spontaneously even though they had sufficient battery. Teens! Do you have any idea how many requests I get?

"Apple's iOS updates purposefully neglected to explain that its purposeful throttling down of older model devices and resulting lost or diminished operating performance could be remedied by replacing the batteries of these devices", the customers said in the Chicago lawsuit, filed Thursday.

Whilst that's all well and good, for the average punter on the street probably won't know to check or change the battery from their iPhone if it's not performing as hoped.

A couple of weeks ago, a Reddit user tested iPhone 6 Plus in a number of benchmarks before and after the battery replacement.

Met Éireann issue two weather warnings ahead of Christmas Day
Despite a mild lead-up to Christmas , the forecaster reckons conditions will be unsettled and cold for much of this week. Meanwhile, a status yellow weather advisory for Munster and Leinster is in place between 4am and 8pm on Christmas Day.

This sentiment was also echoed by Geekbench's John Poole who as we mentioned first mapped out the drop in performance.

According to Atlas Consumer Law, Apple's failure to inform consumers these updates would wreak havoc on the phone's performance is being deemed purposeful, and if proven, constitutes the unlawful and decisive withholding of material information. "This fix creates a third, unexpected state".

Kuo, however, did not reveal further details about specifics, but believes that the technology will require more power thereby forcing Apple to fit significantly bigger batteries in its upcoming smartphones. The company stressed that this function is needed to extend the life of the devices.

"Apple purposefully and knowingly released operating system software updates to iPhone 5, iPhone 6 and certain iPhone 7 phones that slowed the performance speeds of the central processing units ('CPUs') of these devices", said the plaintiffs in a filing in the Northern District of the State of IL.

Apple rolled out the controversial update with iOS 10.2.1 for the iPhone 6 and SE models and iOS 11.2 for the iPhone 7 models.

In short, what Apple is saying is that they are slowing down older iPhones to prevent them from over-exerting themselves and shutting down (to protect the internal components). Why has Apple made things a little more hard for a "family organizer" to approve apps for his or her children?

He claims Apple's tactic of slowing down older iPhone models causes users to suffer - specifically those with the 7 or 7s - and take a hit to their wallets.

The Chicago lawsuit suggests Apple's motive may have been sinister, though it offers no evidence in the filing.

BJP's 'conspiracy' stands exposed with 2G verdict: Congress
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also likely to campaign in the state once poll dates are announced. He said the 2G spectrum verdict has been a "vindication" of the party's stand.

"Corporations have to realise that people are sophisticated and that when people spend their hard-earned dollars on a product they expect it to perform as expected". If your score is "Poor" or lower, it is clear that Apple's fix has slowed down your phone.
