Following confusion because of bureaucratic reasons, Sri Lanka have named a squad of 16 players, led by Thisara Perera, for the three-match One-Day International series against India starting soon after the completion of the ongoing Test series.

Ahead of the third Test against India in New Delhi, left-arm spinner Malinda Pushpakumara was chosen to go in as replacement for veteran Rangana Herath, but the sports ministry refused to endorse his selection as he had failed the fitness test.

The minister is set to meet the cricket board and the nine Sri Lankan players are free to leave later today.

As far as the Test series is concerned, chasing 410 to level the series, Sri Lanka were 31/3 at stumps, still needing another 379 to win the game with seven wickets in hand.

A "Cricbuzz" report said the players were already in the airport and one of them had even boarded the flight.

As per a particular law in Sri Lanka, a team has to get the sanction of the sports minister.

However, after reaching the airport, the team had to return, as the team was not granted approval by the Ministry of Sports.
