Google pledges 10000 staff to its YouTube extremist video hunting army

Google pledges 10000 staff to its YouTube extremist video hunting army

As media coverage surrounding inappropriate YouTube content continues to rise-especially in tandem with United States kids' mobile usage-the Google-owned platform has been vocal about taking initial steps to ensure its youngest of viewers aren't exposed to nefarious material.

In June YouTube announced that it would take steps to address the problem by improving its use of machine learning to remove controversial videos and by working with 15 new expert groups, including the No Hate Speech Movement, the Anti-Defamation League and the Institute for Strategic Dialogue. Several reports stated that advertisers were not comfortable in placing their ads on YouTube thereafter.

The Google-owned video sharing platform has come under fire in recent months for the ease with which violent extremist material and other questionable content can be accessed by users. Now, YouTube will train its tech on disturbing videos aimed at children, and hate speech.

Apple Begrudgingly Agrees To Pay Ireland $20 Billion In Back Taxes
Both Apple and the Irish government have appealed the ruling, but the position in the meantime is that the amount must be collected.

YouTube will also expand its number of reviewers that check to make sure ads run next to appropriate videos.

The company will also focus on training its machine-learning algorithm to help human reviewers identify and terminate accounts and comments violating the site's rules.

Not only does this involve boosting its terror tosspot and extremist ingrate spotting team, but it will also see Google put its machine learning prowess into further action to help the humans sniff out violent videos.

Al-Houthi says Yemen's Saleh killed for treason
The Houthis' political office on December 2 accused Saleh of staging a "coup" against "an alliance he never believed in". The forces of the former Yemeni president regained control over the cities and areas under the control of the Houthis.

In a blog post, Wojcicki said the company was already taking "aggressive action" on comments, and was testing new systems to counter threats that combine human and automated checks.

Earlier this year, advertisers fled the site after ads appeared next to extremist content.

"Human reviewers remain essential to both removing content and training machine learning systems because human judgment is critical to making contextualized decisions on content", the CEO wrote in a blogpost, saying that moderators have manually reviewed almost 2m videos for violent extremist content since June, helping train machine-learning systems to identify similar footage in the future.
