GameStop PowerPass unlimited games rental service has been delayed

In a statement provided to GameSpot, the retailer said it made a decision to "temporarily pause" the launch of the subscription service due to "a few program limitations" that GameStop discovered. "We feel this is the right thing to do for now to ensure we are able to provide our guests an exceptional service", a GameStop spokesperson told Kotaku.

Kotaku reports that GameStop employees have been instructed to remove signage advertising PowerPass from stores. But it appears, at the very least, that GameStop isn't giving up on its program just yet. If unfamiliar, this program would cost $60 and would allow customers to rent as many used games as they would like within a six-month span, with customers getting to choose one of the games they rented to keep permanently, at the end of the subscription. The company says that those who have already purchased the service can get a full return. It was a decent way to incentivize going to GameStop rather than just downloading all of your games.

Nintendo Reportedly Close to Animated Mario Movie Deal With Minions Studio
The report also reveals that, after negotiating for almost a year, the parties are close to reaching a deal with Nintendo. The videogame has previously been adapted into a live-action feature in 1993 that starred Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo.

For now, buying games at GameStop requires old-fashioned monetary exchange. "W$3 e will allow [guests] to bring the pass, and video game they have checked-out, back to receive a full refund". The reasoning was not entirely clear, but per Kotaku, some employees speculate that store computers were too outdated to support the system. Additionally, they can pick out any used game to have for free-not a bad tradeoff.

With the ever-increasing rise in digital gaming, GameStop's PowerPass program could be an important pillar of the store's business. GameStop is yet to confirm if and when this program will be launched again.

Carbon emissions back on the rise
An increase in burning coal in China, in particular, is likely responsible for much of the projected increase in carbon emissions. USA emissions are projected to decline by -0.4%(-2.7% to +1.9%), with coal consumption projected to rise slightly (GDP up 2.2%).

PowerPass has the potential to be a very popular service - that is if the catalog of games available is relatively large and up-to-date.
